According to CoinMeta, Buffett stated in an interview that he regretted not investing in Alphabet (Nasdaq: GOOG) earlier, despite it being one of the greatest investors in history. The new CEO, Greg Abel, ensures that Berkshire Hathaway will not miss out on future Alphabet gains. Berkshire began holding Alphabet in the third quarter of 2025, purchasing about 18 million shares, and then increased its holdings by another 40 million shares in the first quarter of 2026. In June, they acquired shares worth $10 billion through a private placement. Although interest in investing in AI waned in 2026, Berkshire's investment in Alphabet indicates that AI is more than just a trend. According to Statista's forecasts, the global AI market was valued at over $617 billion in 2026 and is expected to soar to $1.2 trillion by 2032.
