Spur raises $200 million to bet on rising demand for robot traffic recognition in the AI era.

US cybersecurity startup Spur Intelligence has raised $200 million in funding, led by Insight Partners. As automation and agent-based AI rapidly expand across the internet, businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish between legitimate users and spoofed traffic, thus increasing the demand for such security tools.

Spur Raises $200 Million in Funding

Spur, headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida, was founded in 2017. Founded by two former U.S. Department of Defense engineers, the company primarily provides traffic identification technology to enterprises to distinguish legitimate users from deeply hidden bot visits and to identify fake accounts and potential threats.

Robot traffic is harder to identify

The report notes that businesses are now facing not only traditional malicious scripts, but also more sophisticated anonymization infrastructure. The increasing prevalence of VPNs, residential proxy networks, and other covert tools used by criminal groups makes it more difficult for security teams to determine the true source of traffic, even though they can see access activity.

Thomas Krane, a partner at Insight Partners, said that many organizations are facing a more obvious blind spot: they can see the activities themselves, but not the underlying infrastructure that supports them.

Cloudflare provides industry background.

A traffic report released by Cloudflare last month showed that by mid-2026, bot activity on the internet will surpass human activity. Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare, stated on the X platform at the time that he had originally expected this inflection point to occur in 2027, but the faster-than-expected growth of proxy traffic has caused bot traffic to surpass human traffic ahead of schedule.

This shift signifies a move in enterprise cybersecurity focus from intercepting single attacks to identifying larger-scale, persistent automated access. For e-commerce, financial services, social platforms, and enterprise SaaS systems, fraudulent registrations, anomalous data scraping, and automated abuse can all incur higher costs.

Financing bets on a new round of security demand

Against this backdrop, Spur's large funding round reflects the growing interest in traffic identification and anti-bot security in the capital market. The article did not disclose the post-funding valuation, nor did it specify the use of the funds.

From an industry trend perspective, as AI agents and automation tools continue to proliferate, enterprise security systems need to be able to determine more quickly whether a visitor is a human, a script, or an automated program disguised as an anonymous network. This has become one of the main growth directions for related security companies.
