According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Korea announced that it has successfully completed cross-border payment tests involving tokenized central bank reserves under the Agora project led by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). The tests covered six currencies and various payment scenarios. In this exercise, the Bank of Korea collaborated with 27 other central banks and private financial institutions to confirm that the core functions and operational processes of the platform worked reliably in an environment simulating real-world payment transactions. The currencies involved were the Korean won, US dollar, euro, British pound, Swiss franc, and Japanese yen. Participating commercial banks included KB National Bank, Nonghyup Bank, Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, and Hana Bank. The participating institutions processed approximately 800,000 Swiss franc transactions across 17 payment scenarios. The Bank of Korea stated that the tests successfully handled a variety of cross-border payment use cases, including single and multi-currency settlements between companies and banks, payment-for-payment foreign exchange settlements, and fund transfers within the same financial group.
