Nvidia or OpenAI to receive $250 billion in financing, Microsoft faces risks
2026-07-31 00:57:25
According to CoinMeta, Nvidia (Nasdaq: NVDA) is discussing providing a financing guarantee of approximately $250 billion for the infrastructure expansion of OpenAI. The project includes the construction of a 10-gigawatt data center in Ohio, with an estimated total cost of over $500 billion. Nvidia is also discussing financing for chips at that location, with the amount potentially reaching up to $350 billion. These negotiations are not yet complete, and the guarantee from Nvidia may allow lenders to support the leasing of OpenAI with their stronger credit, but it may also expose Nvidia to customer credit and project execution risks. Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is related to the cloud expenditures of OpenAI, but is not directly involved in this project. Although OpenAI can offer its products on other cloud providers, Microsoft remains the main cloud partner of OpenAI.
