According to CoinMeta, global giants such as JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, and UBS have completed real-tokenized cross-border payments in a pilot project led by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). This marks the integration of tokenization into the global financial infrastructure. The project, named BIS Cross-Border Payments Initiative, brought together five central banks and 28 commercial banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, UBS, Deutsche Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank, and processed approximately one million US dollars (about 800,000 Swiss francs) in real transactions involving six currencies: US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, and South Korean won. The pilot utilized tokenized central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits to settle corporate and interbank payments, with an average settlement time of around 80 seconds. This initiative aligns with the growing trend of stablecoins and tokenized assets gaining attention in the global finance sector.
