According to CoinMeta, the ownership rate of cryptocurrencies in Canada soared to 25% in 2026, doubling from 10% in 2023. According to a new study by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), the survey found that 59% of respondents were aware of crypto assets, and a quarter of them stated they owned such assets. Despite concerns regarding fraud, volatility, and consumer protection, this indicates that digital assets are becoming more widely integrated into the lives of Canadians. Naizam Kanji, the executive vice president of OSC, stated that the crypto market continues to grow, with Canadians participating at an unprecedented level. The release of this study comes at a time when major crypto companies are seeking to play a larger role in the Canadian financial market. Coinbase is preparing to expand its "all-in-one exchange" strategy to Canada, planning to combine cryptocurrency trading with tokenized stocks, traditional financial products, and blockchain services within a single application. Despite the rising ownership rate, OSC found that awareness of existing protective measures is still limited; approximately 50% of cryptocurrency owners check whether the platform is registered before opening an account or completing a transaction.
