Global central banks' gold purchases surged by 62% to 288.9 tons in the second quarter of 2026

According to CoinMeta, and based on data from the World Gold Council, gold demand in the first half of 2026 was 345 tons, which is the lowest level since 2022. However, central banks accelerated their gold purchases in the second quarter, with a net purchase volume of 288.9 tons. Poland, Uzbekistan, and China drove the demand, while Russia and Turkey were net sellers.
