South Korean Financial Services Commission and Media Review Committee hold consultations on virtual asset regulation
2026-07-31 09:29:48
According to CoinMeta, as reported by digitalasset, the Financial Intelligence Analysis Agency of the South Korean Financial Services Commission (FIU) held working consultations with the Broadcasting Media Communication Review Committee regarding information on overseas unregistered virtual asset operators. FIU stated that Binance has ceased its Korean-language services and marketing targeting South Korean users, and therefore is excluded from the review scope. The Broadcasting Media Communication Review Committee pointed out that excluding large digital asset exchanges like Binance from regulation solely on the basis of non-registration may lead to issues of regulatory fairness. Both parties also discussed the criteria for blocking websites of overseas virtual asset operators. The committee believes that blocking entire websites merely on the grounds of non-registration may trigger excessive regulatory controversy and suggested giving priority to reviewing websites where specific user damages have been confirmed. FIU indicated that they will conduct an internal review and report the findings.
