Altman responds to Kimi K3: Some speed gears OpenAI are more cost-effective
2026-08-01 13:19:30
According to CoinMeta, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the open-source flagship model Kimi K3 in the podcast Invest Like the Best. Altman stated that OpenAI will offer the most cost-effective models at different speeds and price ranges, and claimed that under certain latency requirements, OpenAI currently has more advantages than Kimi, although no specific models, prices, or test conditions were disclosed. He acknowledged that cheap models and open-weight models will continue to exist in the long term, and some users will need to deploy and modify weights on their own, so open-source models will still have a market. Altman also mentioned that OpenAI will face huge inference demands in the future, and even if the profit margin is not high, the revenue scale will be sufficient to support the training of expensive models.
