According to CoinMeta, recent attacks on Bitcoin cold wallets have expanded to 4,500 addresses, resulting in losses of nearly $89 million. Attackers are using keys generated by Coldcard to empty wallets worth several thousand dollars each. Galaxy Research indicates that earlier on Sunday, approximately 208 Bitcoins were withdrawn from 1,912 addresses between Friday noon and Saturday morning, with an average loss of over 0.1 Bitcoin per victim. The first wave of attacks on July 30 resulted in an average loss of nearly 1 Bitcoin per address, with a total of 1,083 Bitcoins withdrawn from 1,196 addresses within 41 minutes. The total loss from the three waves of attacks has reached 1,367 Bitcoins, amounting to about $89 million, involving 4,585 addresses. The third wave of attacks sent the coins to their respective destinations, rather than using the shared addresses used in the previous two waves, and employed an output format that supports multi-signature or time-lock conditions.
