According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Japan is expected to announce joint actions with the United States on Monday to curb the yen from falling to a 40-year low, expressing its commitment to rare bilateral coordination in the hope that this will become a turning point for the currency. Japanese Finance Minister Toshihiro Katsumata will announce on Monday morning that Tokyo and Washington took joint action in the foreign exchange market last week to curb what they consider to be excessive yen depreciation. Japan may have sold as much as $58.97 billion to buy yen during interventions in the New York market. On Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department informed several banks that it might also intervene in the yen market. The dollar closed at around 157.60 yen on Friday, down from a high of nearly 164 yen earlier this week.
