According to CoinMeta, the Claude team independently discovered a security vulnerability in the Coldcard wallet within 8 minutes. The developers stated that after checking the wallet's source code, they quickly identified the issue. The vulnerability stemmed from the way the Coldcard firmware generated encrypted random numbers, which affected the security of the wallet and led to one of the largest hardware wallet breaches in Bitcoin history. It is preliminarily estimated that over 1080 BTC were stolen, resulting in a total loss of over 100 million US dollars. The founder of Blocktower Capital, Ari Paul, pointed out that this vulnerability exposed a fundamental weakness in the entire industry. Coldcard users are advised to immediately transfer their remaining funds and increase transaction fees to ensure confirmation.
