According to CoinMeta, in the first half of 2026, hackers stole a record $1.1 billion from cryptocurrency protocols through 212 on-chain attacks. Among these, groups associated with North Korea were responsible for $609 million, accounting for about 55% of the losses. Ethereum and Solana protocols suffered losses of approximately $332 million and $326 million respectively. KelpDAO and Drift protocols each incurred losses of $292 million and $285 million, both linked to the same North Korean group. The frequency of attacks increased from 18 in January to 57 in June, with the amount stolen in April alone reaching $635 million. Blockaid noted that the number of high-risk attacks identified during this period exceeded the total for the entire year of 2025, indicating a significant upgrade in the scale and complexity of the attackers. Operational security mistakes led to losses of about $790 million, far exceeding those caused by code vulnerabilities. Emerging risks include prompt injection attacks targeting AI proxies and new types of wallet delegation attacks.
