According to CoinMeta, user Jonathan Goodman reported that he lost approximately 1.6 million Canadian dollars (about 18.25 BTC) due to a security vulnerability without being connected to the internet. He discovered that all his bitcoins had been stolen after checking his wallet on July 29th upon learning about the hack. Goodman stated that he will report the incident to the police, but does not expect to be able to recover his losses. Coldcard confirmed that there was a defect in his device, which made the mnemonic phrases generated by his wallet easier for hackers to guess. The total amount of bitcoins stolen may have exceeded 109.6 million US dollars.
