Bitcoin miners profit $200,000 from cold wallet hacking incident

According to CoinMeta, despite the market's concern over a multi-million-dollar vulnerability in cold storage hardware wallets, an independent Bitcoin miner successfully mined a block with the hash value 960,804 on Monday, earning 3.157 BTC, worth approximately $199,300. This success came just three weeks after another miner used a single enthusiast-level Bitaxe device to mine a block with the hash value 957,382, earning 3.1382 BTC, worth about $200,000. While individual miners continue to perform well under relatively simple settings, the Bitcoin mining industry is facing pressure due to shrinking profits, prompting some large mining companies to turn to artificial intelligence data centers and related infrastructure in search of sustainability. Meanwhile, small Bitcoin holders are frustrated by the cold storage incidents, leading to millions of dollars in Bitcoin being transferred to exchanges. According to CryptoQuant data, the number of Bitcoin sending addresses surged to its highest level since the beginning of 2024 on Friday. Bitcoin exchange reserves increased from 2.706 million BTC on July 30 to 2.718 million BTC.
