According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, the Japanese government may have used approximately $36.58 billion in its latest round of foreign exchange market interventions to buy yen. Adding to this, previous interventions totaling around $58.97 billion, the recent cumulative amount could approach a record $96 billion. Nevertheless, the yen has only appreciated by about 2.6% over the past month, indicating that the widening interest rate gap between the US and Japan, as well as Japan's loose fiscal policy, continue to put pressure on the yen. The Japanese Ministry of Finance has confirmed a rare joint action with the United States to buy yen and stated that it will continue to take measures if necessary.
