Boltz Suspends Bitcoin Exchange Services Due to Cyberattack Facilitated by AI
2026-08-04 07:26:01
According to CoinMeta, the Bitcoin exchange infrastructure of Boltz has suspended its exchange functions due to multiple recent cyberattacks facilitated by AI. The suspension occurred at 5:54 AM Eastern Time. This protocol adopts a non-hosted design, and user funds were not compromised. The Boltz team stated that in the past few months, the frequency of automated AI attack attempts has increased. Although each attack has been contained, the attackers' pace of innovation has surpassed the team's ability to fix them. Boltz also noted that the attacks seem to come from some “resource-rich groups,” which is why it is not possible to “re-enable the exchange responsibly” at this time. Currently, the API of Boltz is still online, processing upcoming exchange refunds.
