Jameson Lopp: Coldcard Vulnerability Exposes the Limitations of Bitcoin Principles
2026-08-04 14:51:06
According to CoinMeta, as reported by The Block, Bitcoin security researcher Jameson Lopp stated that the Coldcard vulnerability exposes the limitations of Bitcoin's principle of "do not trust, verify." He pointed out that verifying complex software and hardware is not realistic for 99.9% of users, who can ultimately only trust hardware manufacturers, software developers, and security researchers. Lopp advises users not to rely on a single piece of hardware or software, and suggests that AI code review can help identify potential vulnerabilities faster than security researchers can. Coinkite CEO has acknowledged this firmware vulnerability, calling it a "realistic warning of a new paradigm in AI."
