According to CoinMeta, Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad published a statement on the X platform to refute the criticism of The Wall Street Journal ( WSJ) regarding the Clarity Act, calling it disappointing. He argued that such criticism abandons the principles of free market and competition in favor of maintaining regulatory barriers, echoing the views of banking associations. Shirzad stated that the Clarity Act imposes various restrictions on stablecoin rewards and links them to customer activities, and there is currently no evidence to support claims of "deposit flight." He pointed out that three independent studies, including those conducted by the White House Council of Economic Advisers ( CEA ), have not found that the growth of stablecoins leads to a loss of bank deposits. Furthermore, Shirzad emphasized that the Clarity Act does not provide exemptions for DeFi criminal activities; instead, it distinguishes between code developers and financial intermediary operators, with fraud, sanctions violations, and money laundering still subject to legal prosecution. He called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Clarity Act, stating that the United States needs to establish long-term and stable federal digital asset regulatory rules.
