Ethereum New Proposal: Issuance to Stop When ETH Staking Reaches $112 Billion
2026-08-05 13:54:03
According to CoinMeta, Ethereum researchers and developers have proposed a new initiative that aims to gradually reduce validator rewards once the number of ETH held in staking reaches $112 billion, with the ultimate goal of achieving a net issuance of zero. This proposal is expected to take effect when approximately 60.25 million ETH (about half of the total supply) are staked, thereby enhancing the long-term scarcity and value of ETH. Currently, around 41 million ETH are staked, accounting for about 34% of the total supply. This proposal has sparked disagreements among Ethereum market developers and participants. The CEO of AAVE Labs, Stani Kulechov, stated that reducing staking rewards would make lending strategies using ETH almost unfeasible.
