Bitcoin's Attention Surges as the Pentagon Rewrites Its Nuclear Strategy

According to CoinMeta, the Pentagon is drafting a nuclear strategy that identifies China and Russia as potential centers of regional conflict, which has brought Bitcoin back into the national security debate. Elbridge Colby, the Defense Department's chief of policy, is working on a confidential nuclear framework that could potentially expand the role of short-range tactical weapons. Although Bitcoin is not officially included in the nuclear review, the focus on China and Russia overlaps with U.S. military discussions regarding decentralized networks, cybersecurity, and digital financial infrastructure. In April, Admiral Samuel Paparo, the commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, told lawmakers that the military is operating a Bitcoin node and testing the network in a real-world environment. Later, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth informed Congress that the confidential digital assets program could provide leverage for the United States in various situations. While these revelations do not imply that Bitcoin is part of the U.S. nuclear program, they indicate that defense officials are independently evaluating the potential of Bitcoin as a tool for cybersecurity, communication, or value transfer.
