According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, the Federal Reserve Banks of Dallas and New York plan to launch a pilot survey targeting the private credit market, which is estimated to be worth $1.3 trillion, after the end of the third quarter of 2026. The expansion of private credit began after the 2008 financial crisis, when bank financing dried up and it was used to fund acquisitions by private equity groups. Although still small compared to traditional banking, this industry has drawn attention due to issues with the quality and transparency of lending standards. The survey will divide the market into three segments based on the size of borrowers: the upper-middle market (with annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization exceeding $100 million), the middle market ($30 million to $100 million), and the lower-middle market (less than $30 million). The results of the survey are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York stated that the survey will provide insights into credit availability, credit provision, the evolution of lending standards in the private credit market, and its impact on the broader economy and monetary policy.
