According to CoinMeta, former researcher Naomi Bashkansky joined the brain-computer interface company Conduit after leaving his previous position, where he took on the role of founding researcher. The company is developing a non-invasive "mind reading" technology that aims to convert brain signals into text through a head-mounted device. To date, they have collected approximately 10,000 hours of brain signal and language data. Participants wear the device while conversing or typing, and the model learns the correspondence between brain signals and language from this data. Currently, the technology is not capable of reading thoughts word for word; it can only make guesses about the general meaning. For example, if a user thinks "the room seems colder," the model might interpret it as "there's a slight breeze." Bashkansky compares this technology to a GPT-2 stage, suggesting that in the coming years, humans may be able to control devices directly with their thoughts.
