According to CoinMeta, StrongBlock suffered a loss of approximately $72,000 due to attackers hijacking its abandoned governance system. The attackers utilized this system to gain control over the key protocol contracts and subsequently transferred 32,695 Strong and 383,447 Strngr tokens from a pool controlled by StrongBlock, totaling over 416,000 tokens. At the time of the transfer, the loss amounted to around $72,000. Blockchain security firm Defimon warned that by acquiring sufficient Strong tokens, the attackers were able to control the governance votes and submit and approve a proposal to transfer the governance agents of StrongBlock. This incident highlights that abandoned protocols can still pose security risks, and governance attacks can occur without any software defects.
