German Bitcoin Developer: Missed Out on BTC Profits Due to Security Concerns
2026-08-07 02:34:35
According to CoinMeta, a well-known Bitcoin developer from Germany, Ren, admitted that due to concerns about self-stored security, he was unable to accumulate more Bitcoin, despite believing in the long-term potential of this cryptocurrency. Pickhardt stated on X: "Despite the potential for price increases, I have never bought too many Bitcoins because security and key management always make me anxious." He pointed out that even perfectly generated private keys cannot avoid storage risks and software flaws. According to reports by U.Today, attackers exploited a vulnerability in Coldcard's hardware wallet, resulting in the theft of over 1,755 Bitcoins (approximately $100 million). One victim lost around $1.6 million when storing their wallet in a safe. Security researchers from Block discovered that the vulnerability stemmed from the implementation of the random number generator, making the mnemonic phrases predictable. Pickhardt's remarks resonated with some users, and Blockstream, the CEO of Adam Back, responded to this by saying: "Having significant control over cash means one must take responsibility for not losing the keys."
