Tankers mark their destination as Suez to conceal Saudi oil loading operations in the Red Sea

According to CoinMeta, an increasing number of oil tankers entering the Red Sea to load Saudi crude oil are listing Suez Canal and Egypt as their destinations in order to avoid attacks by Houthi militants. This week, when the oil tankers “sea majesty” approached the Suez Canal, their draft data indicated that the ships may have secretly completed loading after turning off their tracking signals in Red Sea waters. Based on the analysis of satellite images and shipping data by Vortexa and Kpler, the ships loaded a cargo from Yanbu Port but never listed Saudi Arabia as their destination; instead, they indicated Ain Suhna in Egypt as their destination. Ain Suhna Port is an important oil storage facility and pipeline supporting the transportation activities of the Suez Canal, and together with the canal, it serves a vital shipping route connecting Asia and Europe. The goods transported by vessels passing through this route range from Russian crude oil to various daily consumer products, making it less likely to become a target for Houthi militant attacks.
