The number of new jobs created in the previous month was significantly revised down to an increase of 20,000, and the unemployment rate fell from 4.2% in June to 4.1%. Economists generally believe that the labor market is in a state of "slow hiring and slow layoffs." Despite the Middle East situation continuing into its sixth month, the economy seems to have managed to cope well, with domestic demand growth in the second quarter reaching its fastest level in three years.
