WonderFi Founder Criticizes Canada's Innovation Environment, Saying It's Difficult for Companies to Grow
2026-08-07 21:15:11
According to CoinMeta, the founder of WonderFi and former executive of CEO Karia Samaroo, recently stated that the company was acquired by the American trading platform Robinhood for 250 million Canadian dollars. This acquisition was not due to a lack of development potential, but rather because the Canadian market environment restricted the growth of local tech companies. Samaroo pointed out that Canada has long faced structural issues that hinder the scaled development of businesses, including insufficient venture capital, a weak public market, and fragmented regulation. He believes that Canada's strict crypto regulations have increased financing costs for companies, made operations more complex, and diminished the interest of overseas investors. This transaction reflects an accelerating consolidation in the North American crypto industry, with American platforms entering other markets through mergers and acquisitions.
