According to CoinMeta, former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) official John Reid Stark warned that the crypto industry is facing a "countdown" issue due to the rapid development of quantum computing. He pointed out that advancements in quantum computing could pose significant risks to crypto assets, especially for investors who hold Bitcoin over the long term. Stark mentioned that SEC Commissioner Alvin Krishna stated in an interview that in the next 3-4 years, everyone should remain "quite vigilant" against the threat of quantum computing. Additionally, an article by Lee Reinas from Duke University also suggested that financial regulatory agencies should begin to develop emergency plans for digital assets that are vulnerable to quantum breakthroughs. Stark emphasized that as crypto infrastructure becomes more integrated into the traditional financial system, the issue of the quantum threat has become more urgent than a few years ago.
