SemiAnalysis Criticizes Google: No Longer at the Forefront DeepMind: No Longer the Most Advanced AI Laboratory
2026-08-08 11:48:10
According to CoinMeta, the latest report from SemiAnalysis indicates that Google DeepMind is no longer at the forefront of AI research and development, with the probability of it regaining that position in the future dropping to zero. The report suggests that DeepMind is losing top-tier talent and computing power, and core researchers such as Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals have collectively left Google to start their own businesses. Previously, Gemini's co-head Noam Shazeer had switched to OpenAI, and Nobel laureate John Jumper also helped revive Gemini three years ago. Now, Sergey Brin has once again taken on the role of firefighting at the front lines of Google AI, with the person in charge of Gemini having moved to Mountain View, sitting right next to Brin at his desk. A similar scenario occurred three years ago when Brin returned to Google during the boom of ChatGPT and directly participated in the development of Gemini. Currently, Google is facing a widening gap in key areas such as programming and corporate AI against competitors OpenAI and Anthropic.
