Russian hardware wallet sales double as new regulations approach
2026-08-09 01:57:12
According to CoinMeta, as Russia is set to introduce new crypto regulations, demand for hardware cryptocurrency wallets has doubled in the first half of 2026. Retailer m.video stated that its unit sales increased by 107% in the second quarter compared to the first quarter, with sales volume rising by 92%. Another Russian retailer, Wildberries, also recorded higher demand, with unit sales increasing by 84% year-on-year in the first half of the year. Neither company disclosed the specific sales figures. Hardware wallets allow for the storage of private keys necessary to control cryptocurrencies on dedicated devices, thereby reducing risks. Russian law does not prohibit non-hosted wallets or consider them illegal; however, it prohibits the transfer of funds from Russian digital repositories to personal wallets. This transition period will last until July 1, 2027.
