Russian hardware wallet sales double as new crypto regulations approach

According to CoinMeta, demand for hardware cryptocurrency wallets in Russia has doubled as new regulations are approaching. A report from M.Video indicates that in the second quarter of 2026, unit sales increased by 107% compared to the first quarter, with turnover growing by 92%. This growth reflects a shift towards more investors opting for self-custody. As Russia formalizes the methods of purchasing, selling, and transferring cryptocurrencies, the sales of hardware wallets have become particularly prominent in this category. The Russian Central Bank stated that legislation regarding the circulation of cryptocurrencies will come into effect on September 1, 2026, with non-qualified investors limited to a maximum purchase of 300,000 rubles per year through each intermediary. This framework will create a regulated market composed of traditional financial institutions and new crypto exchanges.
