CLARITY Legislation Faces Further Delay, Senate Vote in September Approaches

According to CoinMeta, the CLARITY bill, which is a bipartisan-backed crypto market structure bill in the United States, is facing another delay due to the busy schedule of the Senate and the upcoming mid-term elections. Zach Pandl, the head of research, stated that the chances of the Senate approving this bill this year are low, but its failure to pass will not immediately affect Bitcoin, stablecoins, or major blockchain networks. There is still a possibility for the bill to move forward; the Senate majority leader John Thune has submitted a motion to continue its consideration, with a vote scheduled for September 15th. Republicans hold 53 seats in the Senate, and at least seven Democrats or independents are needed to support this motion. Senators Thom Tillis and Ruben Gallego are working on a bipartisan ethics proposal that would allow state attorneys general to impose restrictions on officials issuing digital assets. Senator Elizabeth Warren calls for the rejection of the bill, arguing that it does not provide sufficient protection for investors and national security. Grayscale stated that the absence of the bill will not immediately affect Bitcoin's role as a store of value or the growth of stablecoin payments.
