According to CoinMeta, on August 9th, crypto hackers stole over 8 million US dollars from the cryptocurrency exchange Coinsbuy through a sophisticated cross-chain attack. The attackers first conducted a transaction of 5 USDT, and then within about an hour, they withdrew 6.04 million US dollars in stablecoins from eight Tron wallets. On Ethereum, three wallets were emptied simultaneously, resulting in losses of 1.89 million USDT and 77 ETH. These funds were exchanged for ETH through 1inch. Chain records show that these two chains were connected via a cross-chain exchanger, and the attackers transferred approximately 79% of the stolen funds through the instant exchange FixedFloat, using around 50 one-time addresses. After being contacted by Specter Investigations, a six-figure amount of funds was frozen. Following the attack, Coinsbuy managed to restore the balance of the stolen wallets to 0.05% of their pre-attack level within 24 hours. This incident added to the losses in the crypto industry; by the end of July, the industry had already suffered losses of about 972 million US dollars.
