According to CoinMeta, Sakana AI has released a multi-agent system called Fugu, which has defeated the flagship model of Japan's AI startup Fable in multiple reasoning and programming evaluations. Fugu achieves dynamic orchestration of multiple models through a single API interface, and the top-of-the-line version Fugu Ultra outperforms Anthropic's Fable 5 as well as Mythos Preview. The Japanese government is considering using Fugu for the command and control of its Self-Defense Forces and has listed it as one of the main candidates for "domestic AI". The command model of Fugu was previously trained based on Alibaba's Qwen; if it is to be used for defense purposes, Qwen will need to be replaced. Sakana has retrained its command model using Google's DeepMind open-source Gemma 4, and its performance has remained stable. In the future, there are plans to use domestic models as well.
