According to CoinMeta, as reported by Crowdfund Insider, there are internal discussions within the German government about whether to nominate the President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Joachim Nagel, to become the President of the European Central Bank in order to prepare for the possibility of Christine Lagarde stepping down ahead of schedule. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil tends to support Joachim Nagel, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz has not made any public statements yet. Joachim Nagel has served as the President of the Deutsche Bundesbank since 2022 and has publicly criticized uncollateralized crypto assets such as Bitcoin as "digital tulips," opposing the inclusion of Bitcoin in official foreign exchange reserves.
