According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, for the first time this year, the number of days with inverse “kimchi premium” in South Korea’s virtual asset market has exceeded the number of days with positive premiums. CryptoQuant data shows that out of 221 days this year, Bitcoin experienced an inverse kimchi premium on 123 days, with an average premium of -0.48% for Bitcoin and -0.49% for Ethereum in early August. From June 20 to July 24 this year, there were 35 consecutive days of inverse premium, setting a new historical record. The expansion of the inverse kimchi premium is due to the strengthening of South Korea’s stock market attracting capital transfers, stricter regulations suppressing new capital inflows, and the impending implementation of tax policies for crypto assets.
