Bitcoin BIP edit to remove Luke Dashjr due to controversy over BIP 110
2026-08-11 14:20:02
According to CoinMeta, Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr has been removed from editing Bitcoin improvement proposals (BIP). The reason is that developers expressed concerns regarding his approach to handling BIP 110 and the stagnation of a few chains related to these proposals. Records show that Jon Atack merged the removal request into the Bitcoin/ BIPs repository on August 10th. This decision transformed the earlier controversial removal motion into a completed repository change. The current BIP 3 document lists five editors: Bryan Bishop, Jon Atack, Mark Erhardt, Olaoluwa Osuntokun, and Ruben Somsen. Mark proposed the removal motion on August 9th through the Bitcoin development mailing list, claiming that Dashjr inconsistently applied the editing process while helping to develop and promote BIP 110. Dashjr opposed this, calling it a "false accusation." The removal decision was finalized on GitHub, and BIP 110 is now marked as closed.
