FlightAware sues Kalshi for infringement of flight data usage rights
2026-08-11 15:40:29
According to CoinMeta, FlightAware has filed a lawsuit against Kalshi, accusing them of using its flight data without permission in the flight cancellation prediction market, and requesting the court to prohibit Kalshi from using its information and brand in related contracts. In a complaint submitted on Monday, FlightAware claimed that Kalshi used its flight tracking data to settle predictions in the market, while giving users the impression that the two companies have a close business relationship. This case involves a market launched by Kalshi last month, which allows users to trade on whether specific flights will be cancelled. FlightAware pointed out that Kalshi never informed them that they would rely on their data to determine the outcomes of these markets. The lawsuit alleges that Kalshi has violated contracts, infringed trademarks, and engaged in unfair competition. FlightAware is seeking a temporary restraining order, as well as preliminary and permanent bans, to prevent Kalshi from using its services and brand.
