According to CoinMeta, a New York-based wealth management company is notifying affected customers that a data breach may have exposed personal and financial information. The company discovered that on July 9th, an intruder gained access to their system through the computer network of a third-party supplier. They quickly changed passwords, prevented remote connections, and hired cybersecurity experts for investigation and protection. Although operations were quickly restored to normal, some data files may have been accessed by unauthorized parties. The leaked information may include names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, credit card and debit card numbers, as well as details of various financial accounts. The incident was reported to Massachusetts officials on August 7th. The company emphasized that they took prompt action in their notification letters to reduce risks and restore normal business activities. Affected customers can obtain free identity theft recovery and credit monitoring services through Kroll.
