Bessent and Takashi Sano's differences on the Bank of Japan issue may undermine the yen's rebound

According to CoinMeta, the differences between Benoit and Harukiko Kuroda regarding the Bank of Japan's policies may weaken the yen's rebound. Although the United States and Japan have shown rare coordination in pushing for a stronger yen, Benoit believes that tightening monetary policy is crucial to addressing the yen's weakness, while Harukiko Kuroda is cautious about raising interest rates too quickly, fearing it could stifle economic recovery. Since Kuroda took office last October, the Bank of Japan has raised interest rates twice, but the benchmark interest rate remains at just 1%. Last month, when the United States intervened in the yen for the first time, the Bank of Japan chose to remain inactive, a policy inconsistency that contrasts with historical experience in modern financial markets. Peter Vassallo, a portfolio manager at Fidelity Asset Management, said, "That week was a missed 'golden opportunity'."
