Binance CSO: Current quantum computers pose no direct threat to crypto assets
2026-08-12 16:24:19
According to CoinMeta, Binance Chief Security Officer Jimmy Su stated that current quantum computers are not capable of cracking the encryption technologies that protect major digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, he warned the industry to prepare in advance. In his blog post on Binance dated August 11th, he answered five common questions regarding quantum computing. Su pointed out that existing quantum computers are far from reaching the scale and reliability required to crack the encryption of digital assets. He described quantum computing as a long-term security risk, rather than a direct threat to users. Su also mentioned that issues such as phishing, malware, social engineering, and wallet security remain more urgent threats. Binance is monitoring the development of quantum technology, evaluating post-quantum security standards, and preparing the infrastructure for future blockchain migrations.
