According to CoinMeta, policy research institution Bitcoin Policy Institute ( BPI ) issued an open letter on Monday, joining forces with several crypto companies to call on leading AI laboratories to provide early access to their strongest models to Bitcoin and open-source developers in order to support cybersecurity efforts. The open letter pointed out that defenders of digital assets lack permission to access laboratory cybersecurity projects and may be affected by limitations in the security of open-frontier systems, relying only on less capable open-weight models. The letter suggests that leading AI laboratories establish or expand long-term trusted access programs for qualified open-source financial infrastructure defenders. It emphasizes that open-source software supports critical digital and financial infrastructure; Bitcoin alone safeguards over $1 trillion in value, and related vulnerabilities could endanger individuals' life savings. The signatories include institutions such as African Bitcoin Institute, Anchorage Digital, BitGo, Bitwise, Blockstream, Bull Bitcoin, Mara, Kraken, Ledger, and Trezor.
