According to CoinMeta, as reported by Beincrypto, on August 12th, a Bitcoin user experienced an out-of-control automated script that resulted in the payment of 1.6 BTC (approximately $102,800) in fees within block 962,142, although the actual amount transferred was zero. The automated script being run by this user enabled the replace-by-fee (RBF) function, which automatically increased the fee bid per second, depleting the user's wallet balance. The mining pool Spiderpool mined this block and reaped this profit, with these fees accounting for 88% of the total fees for that block, which amounted to 1.82 BTC.
