Nomura: Expect the Swedish central bank to remain inactive in August
2026-08-13 19:45:25
According to CoinMeta, strategists at Nomura Securities expect the Swedish Central Bank to maintain its policy rate at 1.75% in August and not make any adjustments throughout 2026. Despite low inflation in Sweden and stable expectations, stronger economic activity data, energy risks related to the Middle East, and anticipated tightening policies by the European Central Bank (ECB), there is an increased likelihood of the Swedish Central Bank raising interest rates sooner than expected. The firm noted that the ECB has already raised interest rates once this year and is expected to do so again in September. Although they believe these factors will not persuade the Swedish Central Bank to vote in favor of a rate hike this time, the risks to the bank's forecast for the policy rate suggest that a rate hike could occur earlier than the currently anticipated December 2027.
