Yahoo Finance: Stock market rises due to strong performance across various industries
2026-08-13 22:17:17
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Yahoo Finance, the stock market opened higher on Thursday as the latest inflation data caused traders to reduce their bets on a Fed interest rate hike in September. Falling oil prices and strong corporate earnings continued to stabilize the market. As of 9:40 a.m. Eastern Time, major sectors were generally strong, with real estate (XLRE), communication services (XLC), and consumer goods (XLP) leading the gains. Stocks in semiconductors and computer hardware drove up tech stocks (XLK), with the only exception being the energy sector (XLE), which declined due to falling oil prices. Brent crude oil futures (BZ =F) fell more than 2% to $86 per barrel, while gold (GC =F) and Bitcoin (BTC-USD) saw little change. Some notable stocks of interest to Yahoo Finance readers include: Cisco (CSCO), Cerebras (CBRS), Dell (DELL), SK Hynix (SKHY), Netflix (NFLX), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ).
