In a notice on Thursday, the city government stated that these two prediction market companies were operating "illegal, unlicensed sports betting platforms" and misleading users regarding the "legality and regulatory status" of their products. The core of the lawsuit revolves around the controversial descriptions of event contracts by Kalshi and Polymarket, which are considered to constitute illegal bets under state law. Scott stated, "These companies are operating sports betting without a license and are attempting to evade the law through new labels."
