SEC Delays 'Innovation Exemptions' Again to Address Concerns of Wall Street and the White House

According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to postpone again its anticipated “innovation exemption,” which is aimed at accelerating the trading of tokenized securities. This decision stems from concerns on Wall Street and in the White House regarding the legal basis of the proposal and its potential market impact. The exemption, which was originally scheduled to be partially announced this Friday, would have alleviated regulatory barriers for companies to issue and trade tokenized securities under existing securities laws. A public meeting was scheduled for this Friday to discuss the SEC’s proposed “cryptocurrency regulation” rules, but that meeting was canceled on Thursday. Sources familiar with the matter said the White House is worried that the proposal could “trigger a commotion” while Congress is still negotiating the Digital Assets Market Transparency Act, which could complicate efforts to advance broader cryptocurrency legislation.
