According to CoinMeta, Russian Government Decree No. 936 stipulates that cryptocurrency mining and participation in mining pools will be prohibited throughout the year in Moscow City, Moscow Oblast, and certain areas of Kursk, with the restrictions lasting until December 31, 2032. The Russian Ministry of Energy stated that this measure is primarily aimed at alleviating the capacity shortage risks associated with high-energy-consuming mining facilities connecting to the power grid. Currently, the load from cryptocurrency mining in Moscow's power system is about 1 GW, while the capacity of local data centers is expected to increase to 3.6 GW by 2032, accounting for approximately 17% of peak electricity demand. Russia has previously implemented long-term mining restrictions in several regions, while still allowing the use of domestically mined cryptocurrencies for foreign trade settlements under specific conditions.
