Former Japanese Finance Ministry official: The Bank of Japan should raise interest rates at every meeting
2026-08-17 12:22:39
According to CoinMeta, former Japanese Finance Ministry official Takehiko Nakao stated on Monday that the Bank of Japan should raise interest rates at each policy meeting, with the goal of raising the benchmark interest rate above 2% in order to narrow the interest rate gap between Japan and the United States and alleviate the pressure of the yen's depreciation. He pointed out that even though Japan has already raised its policy rate to 1%, the real interest rate is still negative, while the real interest rates of other countries are positive. With an inflation rate of around 2%, it is not uncommon for Japan's policy rate to reach 2.25% or 2.5%.
